Should this not be possible in your situation, a mixed solution can be beneficial. This accounts for either pursuing your prior occupation or gaining new experiences along the road. This is provided, as long as you feel good about what you do, and can always ensure a smooth and free continuation of your journey how and when you want it. 

There is neither the necessity for carrying electronic devices with you nor the need for forcing you to withdraw from technology should you feel you want to take it with you. In case of a smart phone, tablet or notebook however, it can feel liberating to reduce usage (e.g. to certain intervals) and/or turn off or limit notifications.
